AESON 2026
AESON – Art in Nature along the Isonzo RiverAESON is an environmental art festival and a long-term cultural project that takes place along the banks of the Isonzo River, in Friuli Venezia Giulia, Italy. Since its origins, AESON has explored the relationship between art, landscape, and community, transforming natural spaces into open-air galleries and stages for creative expression. The festival brings together artists, performers, researchers, and local communities to reflect on ecological transformation, the sense of place, and the dialogue between human and non-human life. Each edition unfolds through site-specific artworks, installations, performances, soundscapes, and workshops, all created in close harmony with the natural environment.AESON’s artistic direction embraces Land Art and environmental practices, encouraging sustainable production and the use of organic, recovered, or locally sourced materials. The works are conceived to coexist with the landscape—sometimes ephemeral, sometimes becoming part of a permanent artistic trail that traces the river’s flow.Beyond its artistic core, AESON functions as a platform for education and exchange. Through laboratories for children and adults, guided walks, talks, and concerts in nature, it promotes awareness of ecological issues and the value of collective action. Many activities are designed in collaboration with schools, artisans, and environmental associations, strengthening the link between cultural creativity and local knowledge. In recent years, AESON has evolved into a hub for international cooperation, hosting residencies and joint projects with partners from Italy and Serbia. This dimension connects the Isonzo River to a broader European narrative of ecological regeneration and cultural innovation, aligning with frameworks such as the European Green Deal and the New European Bauhaus. The festival is curated and produced by Ecopark ETS, a non-profit organization committed to sustainable cultural practices and to the regeneration of rural and fluvial landscapes through art. AESON’s approach is deeply contextual and participatory: each artwork and event arises from a dialogue with the place, its stories, and its inhabitants.Over the years, AESON has hosted numerous artists and interdisciplinary projects that merge visual art, music, performance, and environmental science. The result is a unique experience where the boundaries between artwork, landscape, and audience become fluid—an evolving ecosystem of creativity, care, and coexistence. At its heart, AESON proposes a new form of cultural ecology: one that listens to the river’s rhythm, values slowness and transformation, and reimagines the role of art as a living force within the natural world.
