Balgrad Medieval Days - Nedieval Art Festival

30 Jul 2027 - 02 Aug 2027
Alba Iulia, Romania

The Balgrad Medieval Days is a medieval art festival that celebrates the medieval past of Alba Iulia's old fortress and heritage. Is an event that brings together various youth performance troupes and artistic groups from Romania and abroad. It unites young and emerging artists in a space of creativity, discovery, and culture - a timeless setting where the aim is to revitalise European cultural roots. The event revives the lives and performances of travelling troupes from the Middle Ages, the Renaissance, and the Baroque era, as well as the traditions of those times that have endured in the collective consciousness. It offers an opportunity to rediscover and better understand European cultural identity, all within a spirit of intercultural understanding, art, and good cheer.

Young and emerging artists, various groups and companies, along with specialists from local institutions and diverse organisations, offer the public in Alba Iulia and visiting tourists two days of medieval-themed activities and artistic events: theatre, music, dance, fire juggling, interactive open workshops, children's games, and presentations and demonstrations of medieval weaponry.

The first edition was organised in 2016, with support from local organisations and the Municipality. The event developed over the years, and between 2022 and 2025 was co-funded through a partnership within the international cultural project LOCUS – Local Urban Cultural Synergies, under the European Union’s Creative Europe program. The Skepsis Group Association participated in the project as a partner alongside two other organisations from Italy and France.
