DAP Festival XI edition
DAP Festival (Danza in Arte a Pietrasanta) is an internationally acclaimed multidisciplinary festival held annually in Pietrasanta, Italy - a city renowned globally as the "Little Athens" of Tuscany for its deep-rooted traditions in sculpture and the visual arts. Founded and artistically directed by former Martha Graham dancer Adria Ferrali alongside Executive Director Sara Tartaglia, the festival celebrates its milestone editions by merging contemporary dance, live music, and monumental visual arts into a single, cohesive universal language.
Operating across historic theatres, ancient cloisters, public piazzas, and world-class museum spaces (such as the Museo Mitoraj and the Complesso di Sant’Agostino), the DAP Festival transforms the entire city into an open-air creative laboratory and living stage. Rather than treating heritage sites as mere backdrops, the festival challenges international choreographers, emerging creators, and pre-professional artists to engage in a direct dialogue with sculpture, architecture, and the surrounding natural landscape - from the Mediterranean coastline to the Apuan marble quarries.
At its core, the DAP Festival is structured around several vibrant principles: an international performance calendar featuring leading companies and guest artists from across Europe, the Americas, and Asia; “Dance Invasions,” which floods the urban and museum spaces with spontaneous site-specific performances; the DAP College, which offers intensive masterclasses and professional training; and dedicated platforms like XZ Generation designed specifically to spotlight rising choreographic talent and cross-generational artistic exchange.
A vital part of the festival's mission is rigorously cultivating and promoting emerging artists. Through dedicated mentorship, custom production residencies, and platforms like the Colleges of the Globe showcase, the festival is a springboard for young creators to test ambitious ideas, collaborate across borders, and present world premieres to diverse, multigenerational audiences. Supported by institutional partners including the Italian Ministry of Culture (MIC), the Region of Tuscany, and the City of Pietrasanta, alongside ongoing transnational collaborations with prestigious global universities and arts foundations, the DAP Festival stands as a dynamic crossroads for contemporary dance innovation, artistic risk-taking, and global cultural mobility.
