Farces and Jesters: Tabarin's 400 blows - 2026
To celebrate the 400th anniversary of the death of 1620s superstar jester and charlatan Tabarin, the 2026 Oghmac will go nuts!
Eight days devoted to the joyful pleasure of laughter under the stars of the Périgord noir region in France, with a different show every evening, all candle-lit.
Early baroque farces will draw the portrait of one of the last outdoor performers in Paris: Tabarin, who performed farces by special appointment every Friday evening on the newly built Place Dauphine. His success was such that he is said to have inspired Molière and many more great authors and actors of the time.
Our 2026 edition will celebrate the joy of theatre, the merriment of actors, and will look into what influenced Tabarin, and who he influenced himself.
Texts from the mid-sixteenth century to the mid-seventeenth century will have us travel back in time. Baroque music, taverns, dances and popular songs of the period complete the picture.
