Welcome to the Holland Festival in Amsterdam!

What happens when music stretches time and place, and gives you a sense of connection with everyone listening alongside you? That is the kind of space the Icelandic composer and cellist Hildur Guðnadóttir aims to create as associate artist of the Holland Festival 2026.

In 2026, the Holland Festival will be working with an associate artist for the eighth time: an international artist with a broad perspective and a distinctive, leading, interdisciplinary artistic practice. This artist collaborates closely with the festival for one edition and presents, among other things, new work created in co-production with the Holland Festival.Guðnadóttir’s ideas centre on empathy, listening and transformation. They are deeply rooted in her belief that art is about creating shared, transformative and connecting experiences. These themes run like a common thread throughout the festival. The programme once again promises great diversity: from world-class actors to intimate, personal performances; from a gripping operatic drama to an orchestra making its Dutch debut; from an explosive dance production full of glitter to a reimagined theatre classic. All of this takes place in both familiar and surprising locations.New this year is the expansion of the festival to Heerlen, meaning the Holland Festival once again reaches beyond the boundaries of Amsterdam. Alongside the 104 performances, there is also a rich programme of workshops, inspiring talks, free introductions, city walks and an extensive film programme.
