In Memory of Heroes 2027

The International Folklore Festival “In Memory of Heroes” is held annually on the historic island of Corfu, honouring the Serbian heroes and victims of the First World War. Born out of deep respect for ancestors and the desire to preserve history, the festival’s mission is to strengthen cultural ties and friendship between Serbia and Greece. ​Corfu, the island of salvation, is a sacred place where Serbian and Greek destinies intertwined over a century ago. The festival brings together folklore ensembles, singing groups, and orchestras from Serbia, Greece, and the diaspora to preserve tradition and unity.

The Second Edition: Growth and Resilience

​Following a successful inaugural year in 2025 with 160 participants, the second edition marked a major milestone, gathering over 400 participants. ​The event opened with a magnificent parade through the historic streets of the old town of Corfu (Kerkyra), where participants in vibrant traditional attire marched through Venetian alleys, captivating locals and tourists. ​Although main concerts were planned across two days, adverse weather conditions required a dynamic adjustment. Thanks to the dedication of everyone involved, the entire program was successfully held on Thursday, September 24. The single-day mega-concert turned the evening into an unforgettable celebration of music, rhythm, and unity. ​

Spiritual and Educational Legacy

​A deeply moving part of the festival is its spiritual programme: a memorial service for Serbian victims on Vido and a visit to the Blue Tomb. In moments of silence and prayer, participants honour those who sacrificed everything for freedom. ​Additionally, the festival features workshops for youth, educating new generations about tradition, the history of Corfu, and cultural exchange through dance, music, and storytelling. 

A Pledge for the Future 

Organised with the support of Corfu authorities, cultural institutions, and partners from Serbia and the diaspora, the festival continues to grow. ​“In Memory of Heroes” is a movement of cultural preservation and historical awareness. On Corfu, where tears once met the sea, songs are heard once more - songs that proudly celebrate life, freedom, and unbreakable friendship.
