The Krakow Dance Festival is a contemporary dance festival presenting new choreographic trends from Poland and abroad. Since its inception in 2021, the festival has taken place during the summer holidays at the Nowa Huta Cultural Center.During the festival, we present shows and performances, organize movement workshops for groups at various levels of advancement, critique workshops, and accompanying events such as online lectures, photography exhibitions, and conversations with artists.KFT is an initiative of the Krakow Choreographic Center, part of the Nowa Huta Cultural Center, where we have merged the KCC's previous brands: the SPACER Contemporary Dance Festival, the 3…2…1…DANCE! choreography competition, and BalletOFFFestival into one international event.

Guiding principles

The Krakow Choreographic Centre (KCC) operates within the structures of the municipal cultural institution and is one of the few places in Poland dedicated to contemporary dance. It promotes new choreography and contemporary dance on par with other art forms, offering a range of initiatives for both emerging and established artists as well as for the local community.

The KCC organises the Krakow Dance Festival, an international annual event that serves as a platform for a deep experience of movement in many different ways.

The Centre is run collectively by a strong team of women who cherish the soft power of vulnerability, feminism, tenderness, equity, and inclusion, which have not been prevalent in Polish socio-political reality for a long time. KCC is committed to professionalism, long-term impact and evolving with the needs of the dance community.

History

The Krakow Choreographic Centre (KCC) is a young organisation founded in 2014. It is located in the Nowa Huta Cultural Center in Krakow. Initiated by local artists, it has been active in the field of contemporary dance, focusing on artistic creation, education, and organisational development.

Between 2014 and 2019, the Krakow Choreographic Centre was the organiser of the SPACER Contemporary Dance Festival, the BalletOFFFestival, and the 3…2…1…DANCE! Choreographic Competition. In 2021, these events were merged into a week-long summer international festival called the Krakow Dance Festival.

Since 2024, KCC has been a member of the GPS/Global Practice Sharing Program by Movement Research.

Building and facilities

The Krakow Choreographic Centre operates within the Nowohuckie Centrum Kultury. The NCK building is a unique part of Krakow’s Nowa Huta district, serving as an excellent example of socialist realism architecture in Poland.

The KCC has its own studio space, which is used for residencies, dance classes, and features a small stage with seating for up to 75 people. Adjacent to this is a spacious office for the daily use of the KCC collective.

Additionally, for larger events, such as the Krakow Dance Festival, the KCC utilises other NCK spaces, including workshop rooms, a large stage (500 seats), galleries, and the area surrounding the building.
