Kulturtreger

Kulturtreger is a multidisciplinary festival for culture and art held in Varna, Bulgaria. Its programme brings together literature, visual and performing arts, public discussions, lectures and participatory formats, creating a shared space for independent artists, cultural organisations and local audiences. 

The festival focuses on contemporary cultural practice, exchange between disciplines and direct engagement with the public. Rather than presenting culture only through conventional stage formats, Kulturtreger combines performances and presentations with conversations, educational activities and opportunities for audiences to meet artists and take part in the programme. 

The 2025 edition included a dedicated literary programme developed with LiteraV, with literary lectures, book presentations, readings and discussions alongside the wider artistic programme. This allowed literature to function not as an isolated strand, but as part of a broader dialogue between different forms of cultural expression.

Kulturtreger aims to strengthen the independent cultural scene in Varna, create new connections between artists and audiences, and give emerging and independent practitioners greater visibility. The festival is also interested in international cooperation and in creating opportunities for artists to develop new work, exchange experience and reach audiences beyond their usual professional and geographic contexts.
