La Guarimba International Film Festival - 12th Edition

07 Aug 2024 - 12 Aug 2024
Amantea, Italy

La Guarimba International Film Festival is a cultural event that brings the magic of cinema to the people of Amantea, a small town on the coast of Calabria in Southern Italy. The eleventh edition of La Guarimba Film Festival will be held from 7 to 12 August 2024, offering a programme of 165 short films from around the world, divided into the categories of Fiction, Animation, Music Videos, Documentary, Experimental, and Children's Animation. Besides the screenings, the festival include workshops, exhibitions, and community events featuring international guests such as directors, producers, distributors, artists, and musicians. All the festival events are open for free.

A special space called "La Grotta dei Piccoli" will screen short films for children and teenagers, including creativity workshops and meetings with animators, guided by our staff. A Children Jury will be formed among the young viewers to select their favorite film, which will receive a prize. The illustration exhibition "Artists for La Guarimba" will showcase 15 international artists, who will display posters promoting the festival through their interpretation of the Guarimba monkey symbol.

The festival's objectives are to promote participatory democracy, integration, women empowerment, and social themes through culture and the arts. It aims to represent different cultures, languages, and traditions, bringing diversity and innovation to a town without a cinema. The festival will offer workshops for the children of Amantea, educational activities, and conferences on film industry topics. These programmes are designed to provide new skills and opportunities for personal and professional growth to our community.
