Lucky Books 2026

04 May 2026 - 01 Sep 2026
Vitoria-Gasteiz, Spain

"Donde el corazón florece" (Where the heart blossoms)"Donde el corazón florece" is the theme for the 2026 Bienal Lucky Books, an innovative cultural initiative that explores the deep and eternal connection between love and nature through literature. The festival uses illustration, comics, visual storytelling, and literature to inspire reflection and creativity in the community. It seeks to enrich lives by fostering a deeper understanding of the world around us and the human spirit.Core ThemesThe festival's focus for 2026 is "Where the Heart Blossoms," which delves into the idea of love as a unifying principle that transcends human emotion and connects all living things in a web of interdependence, balance, and creativity. The festival's content explores the relationship between nature and love, treating both as primordial forces essential to life. It draws parallels between the generosity of nature—like trees bearing fruit without expectation—and the selfless act of true love. It also highlights the cyclical rhythm shared by love and nature, with seasons of growth, stillness, transformation, and renewal. The festival will also explore the shared mystery of nature and love, both of which invite contemplation of the infinite.Festival activities and contentThe festival program includes a variety of activities designed to engage participants of all ages:Traveling exhibitions: Visual and narrative works composed of a dozen downloadable DIN-A3 sheets. The exhibition features iconic literary couples and the landscapes that frame their passions, from the secret gardens of Romeo and Juliet to the stormy moors of Wuthering Heights. The exhibition material also delves into legends such as the Toborochi tree in Bolivia, which symbolizes resilience and immortality through love.Literary catalog: An annual catalog book titled "Donde el amor florece" will be available, serving as a valuable resource that complements the festival's activities. This book explores love as a "garden of human stories," with each tale acting as a unique "blossom". It includes original stories, like "The Laurel and the Cartographer" for adults and "Rufi's Secret" for younger readers.Roundtables and debates: Collaborations with local book clubs allow for special events, including roundtables where members can delve deeper into the themes of the Bienal.Public readings: The festival features a "poetic antechamber" where participants can explore verses that intertwine nature, love, and introspection. This includes poems like "To the Flowers" by Gertrudis Gómez de Avellaneda and "The Rosebush" by Rubén Darío.Educational Guides: Easy-to-follow online guides and materials are provided to staff and volunteers, enabling them to implement the Bienal's activities effectively and autonomously. The festival's approach is non-commercial, with the goal of ensuring that cost is not a barrier for communities to enjoy this experience. The project is supported by entities like the Ministry of Culture and other foundations. The festival aims to inspire every reader to see love in its many forms and to recognize that, like the life of a plant, love is a perpetual rebirth capable of germinating in any soil, under any sky.
