Mamatita Festival 10
Now in its tenth edition, the Mamatita Festival is the first festival in Sardinia dedicated to contemporary circus and traveling shows recognised by the Ministry of Culture. Born in 2017, with a "zero edition" in 2013, it is designed and curated by SpazioT of Alghero, one of the most active cultural realities on the island, with an important experience gained in the field of theatrical production and the organisation of cultural events. The festival was born in Alghero, with the aim of creating a space for meeting, exchange and dialogue around the languages of contemporary circus and street theatre, performing arts and multidisciplinarity. "Mamatita" in Algherese-Catalan means "nanny, nanny, the one who feeds, raises and takes care": with this idea the festival, culture and art nourish and take care, feed and grow a community that in turn "feeds and nourishes" art, in a continuous dialogue between territory, public and spaces. Mamatita stands out in the regional panorama for the originality and uniqueness of its proposal, entirely dedicated to the contemporary circus and the forms of travelling show. Through the festival, Sardinia becomes a meeting point for European and international artists and companies, positioning itself as a reference in the Mediterranean in the context of the new circus and the performing arts. In this context, Alghero assumes a strategic role, enhancing its identity as a Catalan city and its international breath that the project intends to encourage. The festival in recent years has hosted exclusively and for the first time in Sardinia some of the most interesting companies and artists on the national and international panorama of contemporary circus and travelling shows, but not only. After bringing for the first time to Sardinia the PaNiKo Circus (2017 and 2018), the Bus Theatre (2021), the Teatro nelle Foglie (2023 and 2024), Teatri Mobili (2024-2025) and the international companies Kolektivo Konika, Collectif Acrocinus, Afuma, La Corcoles (for the first time in Italy) and numerous excellences of the national and international panorama of new circus and contemporary theatre. The Mamatita 10 hosts established artists and new generations, including both circuited repertoire shows in major European festivals and new creations from the emerging scene. In addition to the main programming, the project promotes and hosts collateral activities dedicated to puppet theatre, urban performances and social circus, with particular attention to the involvement of Catalan companies of European importance, often for the first time in Sardinia. For the tenth edition, the festival offers a special program spread throughout the territory of N-W. Sardinia, with the participation of international artists and significant returns, strengthening its role as a dynamic cultural platform and reference for the contemporary circus in the Mediterranean, dedicating this edition to the theme of REINCANTO, as an invitation to rediscover wonder, imagination and new connections between art, community and landscape.
