Mitsikouri International Performing Arts Festival for Children and Young People 2027

The fourth edition of the Mitsikouri International Performing Arts Festival for Children and Young People will take place from 9 to 17 October 2027 in Cyprus. Organised by ASSITEJ Cyprus, the festival brings together innovative and high-quality international productions for children and young people aged 0–18, offering audiences the opportunity to experience diverse artistic forms, cultures and perspectives. Building on the success of its first three editions, Mitsikouri continues to establish itself as an important international meeting point for performing arts for young audiences in Cyprus and the wider region.

The 2027 edition will feature a carefully curated programme of theatre, dance, physical theatre and interdisciplinary performances, with an emphasis on artistic innovation, visual storytelling and non-verbal productions that can be enjoyed by audiences regardless of language. Accessibility and inclusion remain at the heart of the festival. Through performances in different cities, collaborations with local organisations and targeted outreach initiatives, Mitsikouri aims to reach children and families who may have limited opportunities to experience the performing arts.

Particular attention is given to children living in rural communities, children from disadvantaged backgrounds and audiences with disabilities. The festival also places significant emphasis on performances for early years audiences, recognising the importance of meaningful artistic experiences from the earliest stages of childhood. Alongside its artistic programme, Mitsikouri 2027 will offer professional development and international networking opportunities for artists, cultural professionals and organisations working in the performing arts for young audiences. Workshops, discussions and exchanges will encourage dialogue, knowledge sharing and new collaborations between Cyprus and the international artistic community.

Through its combination of international artistic excellence, community engagement and professional exchange, Mitsikouri seeks to strengthen the performing arts sector in Cyprus while promoting a fundamental principle: every child, regardless of their background or circumstances, has the right to experience and participate in arts and culture.
