PRISMA / Art Light Tech
From 8 to 11 October, the city of Aveiro will gain new perspectives with PRISMA / Art Light Tech festival, an event that connects art, technology and heritage. The festival will kick off inside several historic buildings and, on the 10th and 11th, will extend to various outdoor locations, with video mapping and light installations in gardens, squares and streets throughout Aveiro. PRISMA is a free entrance initiative organised by Teatro Aveirense / Aveiro City Council and part of Aveiro Tech Week.‘The Shape of Things’ is the theme of the 2025 edition of PRISMA, bringing together a set of works that explore the possibilities of geometry, perception and creation, often bringing audience interaction to the fore. A fusion of the organic and the digital with 20 projects, almost all of which are national premieres, by artists from 9 countries.Among the highlights of this edition is ‘Organism + Excitable Chaos’ by Canadians Navid Navab and Garnet Willis, a work that has just won the Prix Ars Electronica 2025 in the Digital Musics & Sound Art category, one of the most important international awards in this field. An installation to be discovered in the Carmelite Church, in a close relationship with this space.Another key work is ‘Oh Lord’, a highly impactful piece by French artist Guillaume Marmin. It is a video projection created with the Paris Meudon Observatory and the Grenoble Institute of Planetology and Astrophysics, comprising more than 15,000 images of the Sun, exhibited in the Studio Room of Teatro Aveirense. Not to be missed is ‘Aresta’ by Spanish creator Marc Vilanova, who uses the shape and sound potential of the saxophone to reflect on the role of the performer. An installation to be seen at the Aveiro / Santa Joana Museum, a venue where you can also enjoy the works ‘Aprés Nous, La Poussière’ by French artist Clément Demonsant and ‘passo a passo tudo passa’ by the Aveiro project Casa da Lenha. This edition of PRISMA will once again present two installations in Rossio. In the outdoor area, a work by the French collective STUDIO DAAO will be exhibited, presenting an installation composed of five giant inflatable pieces that promise to surprise the audience and become one of the icons of the festival. In the Rossio car park, the public will be able to enjoy ‘Order200’, an installation by French artist Émilien Guesnard with 200 nautical lamps, celebrating Aveiro's connection with the river and the sea.Another highlight is ‘Flux’ by Ksawery Komputery from Poland, a large interactive installation composed of several kilometres of LED strips, which will transform Praça Marquês de Pombal into a landscape of light, movement and sound. Parque da Baixa de Santo António will once again be one of the hubs of PRISMA, as three striking works will be presented there, all in the form of large spheres with a cosmic aspect to their concept. These are ‘Fifth Element’, ‘Moon on the Water’ and ‘Earth’, the first by Metanoia and the latter two by Artshifters, two collectives from the Czech Republic. As in the past, PRISMA will again organise the School of Videomapping, now in its fourth edition, involving beginners and professionals in a training programme that combines projection technologies with disciplines such as architecture, design, installation, visual and multimedia arts. The final works will be displayed on the façade of Aveiro Cathedral.
