Pécs National Theatre Festival

06 Jun 2019 - 15 Jun 2019
Pécs, Hungary

Pécsi Országos Színházi Találkozó (Pécs National Theatre Meeting) is Hungary's most important Theater Festival and Competition with several hundred plays performed every year in Pécs, Hungary’s beautiful Mediterranean city.

The 14 best plays by Hungarian and transborder Hungarian speaking theatre companies compete each year in Pécs National Theatre for the prizes during the 10 days of POSZT, the country’s most important All-Arts Festival and Competition accompanied by several hundreds of performances, musicals, operas, dance performances, conferences, workshops and open panels in the city theatres, the downtown and in Kodály Centre, the crown jewel of the Zsolnay Cultural Quarter, one of the most beautiful concert and conference venues of Hungary and the region with the greatest acoustic character.

Our annual contest is lead by four selectors (elected democratically by the Professional Theatre Counselling Corporation with members including the country’s most renown theatre artist and professionals from all of Hungary’s Theatre Labour Organizations and Guilds) watch all registrated theatre plays in the hungarian language region during the year. They select the 14 best plays to compete in the festival programme where Theatre Art university students, theatre professionals and viewers can enjoy the plays while theatre professionals from all around the profession evaluate them and select the best play, main and supporting actor and actress, director, set, music and lightning on the last day of the festival.

The winners get their prizes (money, talent supporting packages, etc) at the celremonial Awards event on the last evening of the 10 day long festival which is unique in its kind in the region.
