Release Athens Festival 2024

Launched in 2016, Release Athens has become one of the most important cultural events in the country. Held primarily at Water Plaza, a beautiful open-air venue right by the sea, just minutes from downtown Athens, the festival takes place on selected dates over a two-month period, (starting in early June), always seeking to present a diverse range of artists from every genre that has defined the global music scene over the last 50 years.

With extroversion and optimism as its main mottos, Release Athens rejuvenated the local entertainment scene, believing in the liberating power of music - from which it takes its name. Since the first day of its existence, it has presented a multitude of outstanding artists:Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds, Slipknot, Arctic Monkeys, The Prodigy, Wu-Tang Clan, Liam Gallagher, Pet Shop Boys, London Grammar, Bauhaus, Parov Stelar, Judas Priest, Sabaton, Iggy Pop, New Order, Madrugada, Rosalia, Primal Scream Alice in Chains, Cypress Hill, Damian “Jr Gong” Marley, Hozier, Manowar, Disturbed, Clutch, Jamiroquai, Richard Ashcroft, Thievery Corporation, Parov Stelar, Royksopp, Moderat, Archive, PJ Harvey, Beirut, The Jesus & Mary Chain, Fontaines D.C., Parkway Drive, Hooverphonic, Blind Guardian, Epica, Jinjer, Dead Daisies, Sleaford Mods, Anthrax, James, Johnny Marr, are some of the acts who have graced the festival with their presence so far, and there is much more to follow.

Last year’s edition of the festival was the biggest and most diverse in our history. Over the 14 days of the festival, Release Athens teamed up with a prestigious cultural organisation for a three-day festival on two stages with an eclectic lineup, presenting 5 explosive metal shows with the top bands of the scene (Nightwish, Disturbed, Parkway Drive, Helloween, Amon Amarth, etc.). Among the festival highlights were the two sold-out days with the greatest rock band of the 21st century, Arctic Monkeys, as well as legendary acts such as The Prodigy, Madrugada, Primal Scream, Leftfield and many more, and finally we had the pleasure of enjoying one of the biggest hip-hop nights in recent years, headlined by the living legends of the scene, Wu-Tang Clan.

Release Athens returns this June for its 7th edition. This year's lineup is set to be even better, showcasing some of the biggest names on the global music scene. The festival has already unveiled the majority of its lineup, with iconic acts such as Massive Attack, Pulp, Duran Duran, The Smile, The Offspring, Judas Priest, Bruce Dickinson, Megadeth, Thievery Corporation, Black Pumas, Jain and more to come.
