Science in the City 2024 | JEDI (Justice, Equity, Diversity, Inclusion)

27 Sep 2024 - 28 Sep 2024
Il-Belt Valletta, Malta

The Science in the City (SitC) Festival breathes creativity into science and research, to showcase the importance of critical thinking and problem-solving skills. Music, dance, theatre, art exhibitions, interactive experiments, and larger-than-life street art installations: are all inspired by scientific knowledge to help equip society with the tools to navigate today's challenging world. The festival is held in the Maltese capital, Valletta, a UNESCO world heritage site.

On the 27th and 28th of September 2024, Valletta will be transformed into a vibrant, cultural hub of creativity, brimming with the highly innovative, science-inspired, artistic, and interactive activities that this unique festival offers. Malta’s SitC forms part of European Researchers Night (ERN): a celebration of science and research in over 350 cities across Europe.

This year's theme, J.E.D.I (Justice, Equity, Diversity & Inclusion), continues the festival's core focus from recent years. It seeks to emotionally engage citizens, equipping them with the knowledge and skills needed to make informed decisions, combat corruption, and address the adverse environmental and societal impacts affecting Malta and Gozo. This initiative is designed to maximize the societal impact of research and the integration of R&I within the community.

We are committed to showing how important it is to change practices, and systems in research and innovation and to show how science can positively affect society in general to be more accessible and inclusive of diverse voices. J.E.D.I. will be at the heart of every activity as we value all people regardless of ethnicity, gender identity, religion, age, identity, sexual orientation, nationality, or disability. We aim to empower all participants, researchers, artists, and visitors to increase their capacity to work alongside underrepresented communities.
