Science in the City 2026 - Street Festival - Resist, Research, Reimagine
Science in the City, Malta's national science and arts festival, brings researchers, artists, educators, organisations and communities together this 25–26th September (Triton Square, Valletta) to explore how research shapes our lives and inspires positive change. The festival creates opportunities for people of all ages to experience science and the arts through creativity, participation and dialogue. This year's theme, Research, Resist, Reimagine, celebrates the power of research to help us understand the world, challenge misinformation and invites us to reimagine a better future. Through interactive experiences, performances and creative activities, the festival invites everyone to discover how research can empower communities, inspire active citizenship and help address today's global challenges.
The 2026 festival unfolds through a vibrant programme of street activities, performances, workshops, exhibitions, talks and immersive digital experiences, offering something for visitors of every age and interest. In September, there will be a series of Pre-festival events designed to spark curiosity and start conversations ahead of the main celebrations. Audiences can take part in online dialogues, fishbowl discussions, virtual escape rooms, film screenings, workshops and other activities exploring a range of science and arts topics. More information on the full pre-festival programme will be announced soon.
The Street Festival transforms Triton Square into a lively celebration of science and creativity, where visitors can enjoy a live piano performance with reactive visuals, step into immersive VR experiences, explore how research shapes fields such as medicine and forensic investigation, and experience artistic installations, including Pep Walls' interactive UV artwork exploring the effects of light pollution.
Whether you're curious about science, passionate about creativity, or simply looking for an inspiring day out, Science in the City offers opportunities to discover, question, create and imagine together.
All festival events are free to attend. You need to book in advance to secure your place and access exclusive festival discounts and offers. We recommend booking early to make the most of your festival experience.
