The Margate Bookie

The friendly litfest by the sea!

We love how books bring people together, teach them new things, turn strangers into friends and fire our imaginations.

Created in 2015, the festival attracts high quality authors, writers, teachers, and publishers to Margate. This celebration has grown from a tiny first audience of 80 people to 4,000 visitors a year.

The Margate Bookie hosted its first festival in a single room in a disused warehouse in 2015. The Bookie now takes place every October in iconic venues like Dreamland and the Turner Gallery.

The Bookie also runs workshops, walks and courses around the town all year around.
