Theatre of the World
Founded in 1990, I Teatri del Mondo is one of the oldest and most renowned Italian festival entirely devoted to theatre for children and young audiences. Over its more than three decades of history, the festival has established itself as a unique platform where tradition and innovation meet, offering an extraordinary window into the international scene of performing arts dedicated to younger generations. The festival takes place every July in Porto Sant’Elpidio, a city on the Adriatic coast that becomes, for one week, an open stage animated by performances, workshops, exhibitions, and community events. Streets, squares, theatres, and unconventional venues are transformed into spaces of encounter between artists and audiences, fostering dialogue, participation, and cultural exchange.I Teatri del Mondo has hosted hundreds of companies from Italy and abroad, representing the most diverse artistic languages: puppetry, figure theatre, contemporary drama, music, circus, dance, digital and visual arts. Its programming is guided by principles of accessibility, inclusivity, and diversity, with particular attention to the quality of the artistic proposals and their capacity to inspire curiosity, reflection, and emotional involvement.Beyond the performances, the festival is also a training ground. Each edition includes workshops for children, teenagers, and families, as well as seminars and professional meetings for teachers, educators, and cultural operators. In this way, I Teatri del Mondo strengthens its dual identity as both a cultural celebration and an educational project, affirming the role of theatre as a tool for growth, dialogue, and social cohesion. The international dimension of the festival is central. Thanks to collaborations with festivals, networks, and cultural institutions across Europe and beyond, I Teatri del Mondo contributes to the mobility of artists and the circulation of works, positioning itself as a hub for exchange and cooperation in the field of performing arts for young audiences.Deeply rooted in its territory yet open to the world, the festival embodies the values of participation, creativity, and community building. Its longevity and recognition make it a point of reference not only for families and children, but also for professionals in the field of theatre and culture, reaffirming the conviction that investing in the arts for younger generations means investing in the future of society.
