TranziT#7 - European Festival of Contemporary Theatre Practices (2026)

The 7th edition of the TranziT festival brings powerful and relevant devised theatre performances by local and international theater artists to the Rijeka (Croatia) audience, as well as a series of other events such as workshops for the audience before the performances, moderated talks with the audience and artists right after the performances, research labs, and presentations of research lab results, along with an evening of dance films in collaboration with the renowned dance film festival Choreoscope from Barcelona. The public Call will be published by the end of January - beginning of February, and festival’s Artistic Director, Ivana Peranić, will select contemporary theatre performances that each address themes that are significant and relevant to us at this moment, and that inscribe paths in the minds and hearts of the audience leading to a better, more peaceful, and fairer world.

We strongly believe that arts, creativity and culture have an important and significant role in developing better societies and happier individuals. As artists we know the power that art has:- to “speak” to people of different backgrounds in its own unique and deeply human language overcoming prejudices and crossing the educational, economic, cultural, health, social, political and national borders;- to raise awareness and give voice to people in need;- to promote human values of respect for human dignity, freedom, democracy, equality, the rule of law and respect for human rights;- to enrich people's lives with feelings of purpose and meaning, profound understanding of human interdependency and connectedness and a sense of belonging to a community.Our main goals are:1. Devising and programming engaging artistic productions for community and groupsliving in the city in order to artistically express themselves by working with local andinternational artists who will mirror their needs and relate to their deep-inward feelingsincluding those who are already sensitised to contemporary theatre practices as well as those who are going to be introduced to them for the first time.2. Creating a sustainable transnational co-creation and capacity building structure in a form of a festival for small independent European cultural operators who remain marginalised within the sector and lack the capacities and resources to scale their activities and bring progressive art forms of contemporary theatre practices to a wide audience.
