The event of the National Dance Theater, formerly known as the Dance Forum, was renewed in 2011 and since then it has been organised every year as the large-scale event series called the Budapest Dance Festival. The multi-day programme awaits the dance-loving audience with ballet, modern and contemporary dance as well as folk dance productions. The Budapest Dance Festival is the biggest celebration of the Hungarian dance society, enriched with Hungarian premieres and world classics. On the occasion of performances by international companies, we also cooperate with the embassy of the company's mother country in Hungary, so the National Dance Theater also has the opportunity to host international experts in the home of Hungarian dance culture in addition to well-known foreign ensembles.

In recent years, many world-famous companies and artists have performed at the Festival. The Hungarian audience has seen such prominent representatives of the international dance culture as the Nederland Dans Theater, Jiří Kylián, the Alonzo King LINES Ballet, the Shen Wei Dance Arts, the Doug Varone & Dancers, the Ballet Preljocaj, the Company Wayne McGregor, the Les Ballets Jazz de Montreal, the Company Wang Ramirez, the Hofesh Shechter Company, the Rojas & Rodriguez / Nuevo Ballet Espanol, the Scottish Dance Theater and the Les Ballets Trockadero de Monte Carlo. Within the framework of the Dance Festival, the most famous Hungarian dance ensembles also contribute to the cultural life of Budapest every year. The Hungarian National Dance Ensemble, the Duna Art Ensemble (Duna Művészegyüttes), the Hungarian State Folk Ensemble, the Ballet Pécs (Pécsi Balett), the Ballet Company of Győr (Győri Balett), the Yvette Bozsik Company and the Szeged Contemporary Dance Companyare among the most prestigious companies that bring us their productions.
