Errichetta is a grass-roots festival created by a collective of local musicians in Rome in 2012.Then music students, longing to discover the musical traditions of Europe and the Middle-East, the goal was to invite master musicians to Rome in order to discover, share their mostly unknown (to the western public) music and learn from them. After 13 years of activity the Festival has gained international recognition, is nowadays supported by the Italian Ministry of Culture and has had over the years prestigious partners such as Fondation Meyer, the French Academy at Villa Medicis and the Cultural Institutes of Switzerland, Poland, Bulgaria, Turkey and Catalonia. The core principles are: The discovery of traditional music by creating visibility for master musicians from countries with limited state funding and recognition.Fostering and giving a home to new creations, inspired by traditional music, that not necessarily fit the commercial requirements and limitations of the mainstream music industry.Transmission of those (mostly oral traditions) by organizing workshops for both amateur and professional musicians.Sensibilization of young audiences by bringing foreign artists to schools and local entities (public libraries, music schools).Creating a network of like-minded organizations around Europe.
