EstOvest Festival 2024 | Contemporary Recitativo, from Luigi Nono to rap music

18 Oct 2024 - 03 Dec 2024
Torino, Italy

Contemporary Recitative, From Luigi Nono to Rap is an initiative spearheaded by EstOvest Festival, an institution that has been at the forefront of Italy's contemporary musical landscape for over two decades. This project aims to explore the intricate relationship between music and language, forming a temporal bridge that connects diverse musical phenomena emerging from varied contexts, with a keen eye on the current socio-political landscape. Beginning with a retrospective journey through Italy's rich operatic tradition, the project delves into reinterpreting and reimagining classic compositions, extracting inspiration to craft new musical narratives. It then pays homage to the centenary of the birth of Venetian composer Luigi Nono, focusing on his politically and socially charged musical oeuvre, through a Creative Homage distributed across the festival. Transitioning to the realm of rap, a genre deeply ingrained in the cultural fabric of contemporary youth, the project explores how the power of words takes on new dimensions within this musical form. Through established partnerships with conservatories, universities, secondary schools, and various socio-cultural institutions, alongside immersive artistic residencies and masterclasses conducted throughout the year, the project aims to present a multifaceted, interdisciplinary experience intertwined with cutting-edge technologies. Contemporary Recitative, From Luigi Nono to Rap embarks on a journey across Turin and other significant locations in the region, presenting performances where emerging talents collaborate with globally recognised artists, fostering a dynamic exchange of creative and performative experiences.
