ExploreZ Festival 2026

ZID Theater is excited to announce the newest edition of the ExploreZ Festival in 2026. An international, multidisciplinary festival in performing arts that is more than merely a festival; it’s a breeding ground for connection, exploration and social change! Through workshops, performances, and exchanges, it explores the power of collaboration and creativity across borders. The festival takes place at different unique locations in Amsterdam, from outside performances to libraries and theatres. After, a selection of the program will tour to different cities in the Netherlands and beyond! This year’s theme "Necessity as Compass" demonstrates that art can actively contribute to the questions and solutions of our time. Artists, social and artistic partners, and audiences, together, are invited to explore what essential societal issues exist and how we should respond to them, from inequality and the climate crisis to polarization and exclusion. Together they create creative and social impact.ExploreZ functions as a laboratory for inclusive art practices where art connects people and communities. The festival offers young artists with a migration or refugee background unique development opportunities and international collaborations, guided by experienced directors. Emerging talents from the Netherlands and beyond are additionally offered a platform to explore and engage and showcase their work. International guests enrich the festival with new perspectives and techniques!ExploreZ is co-created by artists, international guests, and city residents for a diverse and inclusive audience. ZID Theater produces this annual festival. ZID's DNA - diverse, inclusive, international, and multidisciplinary - is therefore woven into the fabric of the festival.
