FREI ART FESTIVAL 2025 – International Dance Art, Workshops and Performances15.–21. September 2025, Freiburg (Germany)From September 15 to 21, 2025, Freiburg will become a meeting point for the international dance scene. The Frei Art Festival brings together artists from around the world for a week of workshops, intensives, performances, and exchange – open to professional and semi-professional dancers as well as dance enthusiasts from the region.The workshop program is curated by internationally renowned choreographers and dancers, including Ultima Vez, Edward Clug, Nederlands Dans Theater, Thusnelda Mercy, Rakesh Sukesh, Victor Rottier, Alleyne Dance, and Kalli Tarasidou. The offerings range from multi-day intensives focusing on repertoire, experimental work, and technique to workshops in contemporary and urban dance styles.The performance program features works by international guests, local artists, and emerging choreographers. Among others, productions by Petricor Danse (Québec), Collective Zinada with WUW – a piece for young audiences – and the Canadian Ouro Collective with a choreography by RubberLegz will be presented. One premieres is also part of the program: A new production by Vasiliki Papapostolou & Kalli Tarasidou, a co-productions of the Frei Art Festival and Studio Pro Arte. On September 20, the Out.liers Dance Contest takes place – an interdisciplinary all-style competition that merges urban dance with contemporary forms and invites spontaneous creation in the moment. In front of an international jury and accompanied by live music, dancers will compete for the title of Out.lier 2025. Workshops, jam sessions, and performances complete the format.With the Choreographer Summit, part of the FREI ART CONNECT platform, the festival offers space for new choreographic voices and international exchange. From more than 150 submissions worldwide, a jury selected six short pieces to be presented on September 17 in Freiburg. The participating artists will showcase their works and may be offered residencies, performance opportunities, and mentoring. The summit is made possible through collaborations with numerous international partner organizations and festivals, including Tanzhaus Basel, Dance Festival Malta, Theater Dortmund, Detours Festival Brussels, Masdanza, and other key players in the global dance scene.Check the Program at www.freiartfestival.com
