As a multi-arts city celebration, Jyväskylä Festival has been organised since 1956. Jyväskylä Festival is a pioneer of wordless theatre in Finland, and its theatre programme has now been based on this art form for almost two decades. It presents a theatre programme based on mime, physical theatre, contemporary circus, clowning, acrobatics, object theatre and mask theatre. Festival also includes strong elements of street dance, classical music, world music, folk music and street theatre.
