THEATRUM KUKS. Festival of Baroque and Baroque-inspired arts
THEATRUM KUKS is a multigenre festival of Baroque and Baroque-inspired arts located in the formal Baroque spa Kuks in northeastern Bohemia. The festival is returning live arts back to this 300-year-old former cultural hub. The event is reviving the unique architecture, statues and natural wonders all of which possess a strong genius locus.
Artists from all parts of the Czech Republic and abroad come to present their visions and interpretations of Baroque across genres. The festival offers workshops and residencies encouraging young artists to discover the Baroque cultural heritage and to search for connections, resemblances and inspiration for contemporary life and art.
The festival's dramaturgy focuses on the big names of the Baroque art history and their interpreters as well as local dramaturgy linked to the Count of Sporck, the founder of Kuks and a prolific cultural promoter and benefactor of the arts.
