THEATRUM KUKS. Interdisciplinary festival of Baroque and Baroque inspired art
Theatrum Kuks promotes live arts in the small village of Kuks founded 300 years ago as a summer residence and a European cultural centre.Since 2002 Theatrum Kuks has organised a multidisciplinary festival of the same name that showcases Baroque and Baroque inspired art with the village of Kuks as the backdrop. Furthermore, Theatrum Kuks has been operating the Gallery of Marionettes featuring a unique collection of 50 marionettes by Jiří Nachlinger inspired by the sculptures of Matthias Braun. In collaboration with the Czech cultural network Nova Sit, Theatrum Kuks organises a puppet festival Malá Loutková Inventura to elevate the region's long puppetry tradition. Theatrum Kuks offers artists of all disciplines and genres the opportunity to present their work in the program of both festivals, participate in workshops and residencies, and be inspired by the site and its distinctive genius loci.Artists from all parts of the Czech Republic and abroad come to present their visions and interpretations of Baroque across genres. The festival offers workshops and residencies encouraging young artists to discover the Baroque cultural heritage and to search for connections, resemblances and inspiration for contemporary life and art. The festival's dramaturgy focuses on the big names of the Baroque art history and their interpreters as well as local dramaturgy linked to the Count of Sporck, the founder of Kuks and a prolific cultural promoter and benefactor of the arts.In 2026 the festival celebrates its 25th anniversary with the theme of "light" in the broad sense of the meaning.
