In 2026, we mark the 200th anniversary of the northern border today separating Finland, Russia, and Norway. The demarcation of this border—once a borderless area supporting a nomadic and seasonal way of life—marked the beginning of a profound marginalization of these migrating cultures.With this historical backdrop, Pikene på Broen presents the 22nd edition of the art festival Barents Spektakel 2026: The Border Crossed Us. Speculative and spectacular and with resonances across other borderlands, the 2026 festival asks: What if the northern border had never been drawn? And what will our border areas look like in 200 new years?
