International puppet festival "Golden Sparkle"

The Festival was established in 1994, not by a decree, but by endless persistence, will and love of a group of enthusiasts. Back then, there were only few who thought it could survive, and even fewer who thought it could become traditional. Yet, it proved them wrong. It grew up, with its own ups and downs, but it managed to survive and consequently has secured its continuity since 2001.

Traditionally in every May, Kragujevac becomes a central gathering spot for a great puppetry family spread worldwide. The festival is dedicated to puppet performances for children, but also for youth and adults.

On the previous 24 festivals, we had over 300 competing performances and other that were out of competition and made in the honor of award winners, opening ceremony and streets. Year by year, the festival was the place of new and different, occasionally intriguing things, stepping out of the literature classics.

We got to know various puppetry schools and traditions, we watched performances in foreign languages, we learned about new trends in the art of puppetry. Owing to the appreciation of true values, other and different, the Festival has managed to reach a significant level.

Today, the Festival represents an inseparable part of cultural offer of the City of Kragujevac, and being turned towards all ages, it holds a special place. It is unique on the territory of Serbia and, according to the assessment of relevant bodies, reputed as one of the most significant art events of its kind in Balkan countries.
