31st Prague German-Language Theatre Festival
The Prague German-Language Theatre Festival is a prestigious annual festival showcasing outstanding and innovative theatre productions from across the German-speaking world, with a particular focus on artistic quality and the latest trends in dramaturgy and staging. It is a unique international project with a thirty-year history that is unparalleled outside the German-speaking world and one of the most significant cultural events in Prague, supported on a long-term basis by the Ministry of Culture of the Czech Republic, the City of Prague, the German-Czech Future Fund, and the Goethe-Institut. It has a loyal audience base spanning all age groups and social strata (school and university students, industry professionals, representatives of cultural institutions, domestic and international media, and businesses…). The festival productions are staged in Prague’s finest theaters, such as the Estates Theater, the Theater in the Vineyards, and the Komedie Theater, as well as in unique, unconventional venues (film studios, factory halls, galleries, and the like). All festival productions are subtitled in Czech. The main program typically consists of 3 major and about 7 smaller theater productions and is enriched by a diverse accompanying program, such as theater excursions, discussions with the audience, lectures, exhibitions, workshops, and the like. The festival is regularly held under the patronage of the President of the Republic, the Minister of Culture, and the Mayor of the capital city of Prague. Coproductions, open calls, Josef-Balvín-Award and other projects.
