Cistermúsica - Alcobaça Music Festival

Cistermúsica - Festival de Música de Alcobaça is one of the most prestigious and well-established erudite music festivals in Portugal. Taking place in the majestic scenery of the Alcobaça Monastery, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, every year the Festival presents an assorted programme that embraces opera, dance, visual arts and cultural happenings, allowing discoveries beyond the boundaries of classical music.

Cistermúsica presents its 32nd edition, to be held between 28 June and 3 August 2024. The programme includes more than 40 concerts under the motto "Timeless", programmes that, by transcending the barriers of time, reflect a unique artistic diversity and respond to the desires of Cistermúsica audiences, who between June and August can always count on exciting experiences in the scenic and unique setting of the Alcobaça Monastery.

This year, the Alcobaça Music Festival marks the inevitable musical ephemera: we will honour the 100th anniversary of the birth of Joly Braga Santos, one of the main figures of 20th century Portuguese music, the 150th anniversary of G. Holst and Schoenberg, the 200th anniversary of Anton Bruckner and the 100th anniversary of the death of G. Puccini and G. Fauré.

This edition also commemorates the 50th anniversary of the Carnation Revolution, which put an end to dictatorship in Portugal, and the 500th anniversary of the birth of Luís Vaz de Camões.
