Welcome to Korsholm Music Festival.
Since 1983 the festival has invited leading Nordic and international musicians to perform in unique surroundings, such as historical halls, museums, wooden churches typical for the Finnish west coast and in UNESCOs heritage site Kvarken. The theme for 2022 is described as Chanting Forests and continues the nature and climate theme from 2021. Instead of insects and its diminishing species we focus this summer on trees and forests. Our composer in residence this year, Minna Leinonen from Finland. The Audience get to know part of her compositions as also the festival has commissioned a Piano Quintet from her. The Korsholm Music Festival celebrates 40 years of chamber music and has invited all previous artistic directors to the festival to perform in our different sites. Here we have performers as Professor Seppo Kimanen, violinist Dmitry Sitkovetsky, cellist Frans Helsmerson, conductor, violinist John Storgårds, conductor Dima Slobodeniouk, cellist prof. Marko Ylönen, prof, pianist Henri Sigfridsson and our now working Artistic Director Cecilia Zilliacus, violin. Trees and forest in focus and a miniopera Ecce Arbor will be heard close to the nature in our Undesco´s world Heritage site Kvarken. We will add excursions in the nature on the Finnish westcoast and good locally produced food experiences around the 20 - 30 concerts in the region.

On the Finnish west coast we are situated one hour from the capital Helsinki and 3,5 hours from Umeå in Sweden, from where you can take the shortest ferry trip to Vaasa in Finland with the most environment friendly ferry in the world, Botnia Aurora www.wasaline.com The festival is situated in the city of Vaasa and Korsholm Archipelago. Foreign and Finnish chamber musicians perform during 9 days in the light nights, in unique historic concert halls, museums, rustic archipelago rooms and wooden churches. The repertoire is ranging from symphonies, baroque and classical chamber works to contemporary music and jazz.
