RisorgiMarche IX edition
RisorgiMarche is an environmentally sustainable and socially inclusive music festival created in response to the devastating 2016 earthquakes in central Italy. Conceived by actor and musician Neri Marcorè and producer Giambattista Tofoni, and produced by Eventi SCRL, the festival takes place in the heart of the Marche region, particularly within the Sibillini Mountains and in small villages affected by the disaster. Its mission is to offer both moral and material support to local communities through a format that combines music, nature, solidarity, and regeneration. Concerts are held outdoors in pristine landscapes, accessible exclusively on foot or by bicycle along hiking trails. There are no stages, no artificial lights, no barriers — artists perform with minimal setup, often acoustically, in full harmony with the surrounding environment. The result is an immersive, slow-paced, and deeply emotional experience, rooted in the values of respect, participation, and beauty. Each event becomes a shared journey, involving trekking, collective discovery, and meaningful encounters between artists, the public, and local communities. Since its inception in 2017, RisorgiMarche has grown into a large-scale phenomenon. Over 350,000 people have attended its 117 concerts, covering more than 3.7 million kilometers on foot. It has hosted top-tier Italian and international musicians — all of whom performed without fees, embracing the festival’s ethos. In a notable moment in 2017, Jovanotti, one of Italy’s most renowned pop artists, drew 70,000 people to a remote mountain pasture for a free, unplugged concert, without leaving a trace of waste.https://www.flickr.com/photos/risorgimarche/46388623695/in/album-72157679186177138RisorgiMarche is a flagship model for green event organization. It is plastic-free, uses electric vehicles, encourages carpooling and public transport, and avoids printed materials in favor of digital promotion. Water refill stations are provided, and the public is asked to bring reusable bottles. All catering uses compostable packaging and local, seasonal products, promoting circular economies and short supply chains. Waste separation and eco-islands are standard at every event, and post-event cleanup is a shared priority, consistently resulting in immaculately preserved sites. Inclusivity is another key pillar: dedicated transport systems are organised for people with disabilities, and part of the festival’s proceeds support associations like Anffas Onlus Sibillini, helping rebuild structures for people with intellectual disabilities. Initiatives like the Frollabus, a traveling pastry bus run by youth with disabilities, add depth and visibility to inclusive values. The festival has also become a tool for economic revitalisation. Local producers participate in the “Isole del Gusto” (Taste Islands) near concert areas, with over 500 artisan and food companies involved in the first three editions. DopoFestival events, hosted in nearby villages, feature guided tours, markets, exhibitions, and tasting experiences, helping visitors connect with the region’s cultural and culinary heritage while stimulating its economy. RisorgiMarche’s innovative format and deep impact have earned multiple awards: Premio CulturaInVerde, Premio Anima, Premio Bandiera Verde, and BITAC for best territorial impact. It has become a case study in sustainability, featured in six university theses and recognised across Italy for its ability to merge culture, solidarity, and environmental consciousness. Today, RisorgiMarche is evolving into a broader network of projects rooted in solidarity, sustainability, and cultural participation. It integrates new formats such as concert-hikes at dawn and dusk, podcast-recorded artist encounters, and thematic workshops, becoming a year-round platform for regeneration, dialogue, and community engagement. Its model is now inspiring similar projects in other regions and countries. RisorgiMarche is not just a festival — it’s a movement. A slow revolution that places people, landscapes, and relationships at the center.
